Three-dimensional florals are poised for popularity this year after appearing on the runways of Balmain, Christian Cowan and Marni during the spring 2024 season. On Monday’s Met Gala red carpet in New York, celebrities including Nicki Minaj, Kelsea Ballerini and Karlie Kloss partook in the fad, flaunting sculptural blossoms and branches.

Nicki Minaj
Minaj’s yellow hand-painted Marni minidress was adorned with colorful pop-up buds.
Kelsea Ballerini
Ballerini’s sheer Michael Kors gown featured strategically placed pink and orange appliques. A team of eight artisans spent 3,550 hours crafting the country star’s floral frock. Ballerini completed her look with custom Simon G jewelry embellished with diamonds, orange and yellow sapphires.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid wore a custom corseted off-the-shoulder gown by Thom Browne, which featured a mermaid silhouette, yellow rosette appliques and a ruffled skirt. Her black and white frock was adorned with 2.8 million micro bugle beads, which were embroidered by a team of 20 over the course of 5,000 hours. She accessorized with yellow diamond Chopard jewels, including a necklace, rings and drop earrings.
Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington opted for a plunging violet velvet gown custom-made by Oscar de la Renta, which included a train adorned with three-dimensional blossoms. The actress also added on Jimmy Choo heels.
Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri selected a gradient floral lace halter gown by Loewe. The actress, best known for her role in FX’s “The Bear,” accessorized with Boucheron jewels including aquamarine drop earrings and a large cocktail ring embellished with diamonds and sapphires.
Karlie Kloss
Kloss’ custom crystallized Swarovski gown featured jeweled flowers and branches.
The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” nods to the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will open to the public on Friday. The 2024 event is notably co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
