Columbia Fire Department spokesperson said that one of their firefighters was taken to the hospital after a structure fire that broke out overnight in the 1600 block of East Business Loop 70. The fire service was alerted to the incident at around 2:13 a.m. on Friday, and upon arrival they found a construction trailer completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within just eight minutes of arriving at the scene. However, apart from the injured firefighter, there were no other injuries during the incident. The Columbia Fire Department said that fire marshals are currently conducting an investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
A total of nine Columbia fire departments and 18 personnel responded to the scene to contain the fire. At 2:29 a.m., crews closed East Business Loop 70 between Paris Road and Edison Street as a precaution due to the fire. Unfortunately, there was no information on when the road was reopened to traffic.
