Marcelo De Oliveira, a former Everett resident, has been charged with four counts of filing false tax returns for his residential carpentry company, De Oliveira Carpentry, Inc., according to Acting United States Attorney Joshua Levy’s office. De Oliveira, 39, is accused of cashing customer checks instead of depositing them into his business bank account between 2017 and 2020. Charging documents also revealed he failed to report more than $3.1 million in business income to the IRS on his tax returns .

The charge of filing false tax returns carries a possible sentence of up to three years in prison, up to one year of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. This case highlights the importance of accurately reporting income and expenses to the tax authorities to avoid legal consequences and penalties.
