Amazon Fresh is making significant changes to its advanced checkout process, as the company switches from its checkout-free “Just Walk Out” system to Dash Carts in its stores. The supermarket arm of Amazon will now use smart shopping carts that track items as customers place them in the cart and allow checkout via the Dash Cart bar. This change is intended to provide customers with additional convenience and improve their shopping experience.

Despite this shift, Amazon Fresh will continue to use Just Walk Out technology in Amazon Go stores, smaller UK outlets, and other third-party locations. The cashier-less technology was first introduced in the US in 2016 but is now being replaced by Dash Carts to provide customers with more benefits while they shop.

According to Jessica Martin, an Amazon spokeswoman, customer feedback has played a crucial role in this decision. Customers have expressed a desire for features such as easily locating products, accessing offers, viewing real-time receipts while shopping, and tracking savings across the store. In response to this feedback, Amazon has introduced the Amazon Dash Cart to enhance convenience for shoppers who can now skip the checkout line while enjoying these additional benefits.

The introduction of high-tech smart carts by retailers such as ShopRite is also helping revolutionize the checkout process in the retail sector. With these changes, customers can expect a better shopping experience at Amazon Fresh stores across the country. There are currently 44 Amazon Fresh stores across the country, with one located in New Jersey at Paramus and another planned to open in Eatontown soon.
