In today’s digital era, our online actions have far-reaching consequences in the offline world. The boundaries between the digital and physical worlds are becoming increasingly blurred, making cyber security a vital component of any digitization strategy. Stefano Epifani, President of the Foundation for Digital Sustainability, emphasizes the importance of understanding and managing IT systems in a sustainable way to effectively address these challenges.
The Digital Sustainability Foundation, in collaboration with Giala, conducted research on the intersection of cybersecurity and sustainability, culminating in the “Sustainability and Cybersecurity” study presented to the House of Representatives. This study explores how IT security can contribute to sustainability goals and is managed according to sustainability criteria. The study was informed by contributions from industry experts, cyber security experts, university professors, researchers and innovation managers.
The research identifies three key areas that significantly impact the Sustainable Development Goals set out in the 2030 Agenda. These areas highlight the interconnected nature of cybersecurity and sustainability, highlighting the need for a holistic approach to addressing both social and environmental challenges in the digital age. The study highlights the importance of integrating sustainability principles into cybersecurity practices to ensure a safer and more sustainable digital future.
