The British royal family commemorated Princess Charlotte‘s ninth birthday on Thursday. The Prince and Princess of Wales took to social media and shared a new portrait of the young royal, captured by her mother Kate Middleton.
In the portrait, Princess Charlotte is seen outside wearing the Darkwash Denim Skirt by Cyrillus, the burgundy Diamond Wool Cardigan by the same brand, and a navy blue sweater with a floral collar. The young royal’s brunette and blond locks cascaded past her shoulders near her waist, worn in soft, natural waves.
“Happy 9th Birthday, Princess Charlotte! Thank you for all of the kind messages today,” the caption to the social media post read. A flashing camera emoji was also included, indicating that the Princess of Wales, who is privately undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer, had captured the snapshot.

Middleton often photographs images of her children and shares them with the public as the official portraits for their birthday. For Princess Charlotte’s snapshots last year, she wore a white dress with small blue and pink floral prints and an oversize collar from British brand Trotters.

More recently, Middleton captured the birthday portrait of Prince Louis, who celebrated his sixth birthday on April 23. In the portrait, Prince Louis also fashioned a piece from Trotters, wearing the button-down Oliver shirt in camel check. Over the course of the last few years, Prince William and Princess Catherine’s children have joined their parents for a few royal engagements.
In May 2023, Princess Charlotte joined her parents and brothers Prince Louis and Prince George on the balcony of Buckingham Palace following the coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. They also attended the annual Christmas services with their family in Sandringham in December 2023.
