The free mini-series of science programs aimed at girls in grades five through eight will take place at St. Patrick County Park in South Bend on April 20 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. Students will have the chance to learn about Indiana’s wildlife from animals and staff from the Pottawatomie Zoo, as well as hands-on science experiments conducted by Riley Middle School teachers.
The program will feature a presentation by Jennifer Tank and her research team from the University of Notre Dame on the fascinating world of aquatic insects and their impact on waterway health. This initiative is part of Girls Aspiring to Learn Science (GALS), which aims to inspire young women to pursue careers in science.
To participate, attendees are advised to dress appropriately for the weather and wear hiking shoes, as some activities may take place outdoors. Lunch and snacks will be provided for all attendees. The program is made possible by the Dr. Elmer R. Youth Fund, thanks to whom it is free of charge. However, registration must be completed by April 17 by calling 574-654-3155.
