This summer, Rome will host the first-ever UAS Hack, a multi-day event that brings together drone technology and cybersecurity enthusiasts to explore their intersection. The event will take place from August 19th to 23rd at ORION at the NTROPEE facility in Rome.

The UAS Hack is aimed at university students and professionals in the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) industry. Its goal is to foster collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking while addressing cybersecurity issues in the field of UAS. Assured Information Security (AIS) has announced that it will provide guidance and curriculum for the event.

During the UAS Hack event, Eric Thaier, Principal Engineer at AIS, will mentor prospective students. The focus of the mentoring will be on exposing participants to industry professionals and relevant platforms to help them broaden their skills and gain insight into potential careers in security. Students will receive training on UAS safety assessment, identifying security threats, and providing feedback to vendors and manufacturers.

The event takes place in New York’s 50-mile UAS corridor, where participants will be presented with hands-on challenges to identify vulnerabilities in unmanned aircraft systems and devise effective strategies to combat potential cyber attacks. The event is sponsored by the Open-Architecture Resilient IoT for Operational Networks (ORION) ecosystem, which includes partners such as the Aerospace Research Laboratory Information Directorate, Quanterion Solutions, Griffiss Institute, NISTEC, and Cisco.
