In Rwanda, the former Minister of Justice, Stanislas Mbonampeka, was arrested in Belgium last Thursday for his involvement in the 1994 genocide. The federal public prosecutor confirmed this information following reports from various African media and the Spanish news agency Efe. Mbonampeka appeared in court on Thursday, where his arrest warrant was extended by a month.

Rwanda’s position is that those who have committed crimes should face prosecution or accountability, as a spokesman for the public prosecutor’s office stated. Ibuka, an organization that represents genocide survivors, expressed satisfaction over the arrest of 82-year-old Mbonampeka. Philbert Gakwenzire, the president of Ibuka, described it as a relief to the survivors and families of victims who were killed on orders. Gakwenzire hopes that Mbonampeka will be extradited to Rwanda despite his advanced age.

The Rwandan genocide began on April 7, 1994 after the assassination of President Juvenal Habyarimana and Burundian President Cyprien Ntariamir on April 6th. The genocide resulted in the deaths of at least 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in just over three months. Belgian soldiers at Ndera Psychiatric Hospital decided to evacuate after the killing of two leaders which led to an attack on the hospital allegedly ordered by Mbonampek.

In real estate transactions involving cash buyers can save time and money for both buyers and sellers. However, there are risks associated with cash sales transactions that buyers should exercise caution before making an offer on a home for cash. Factors such as closing costs and potential scams should be considered before making any decisions about purchasing a property outright.
