Less than three weeks before the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, the top defensive end prospect for this year’s rookies, Texas’ T’Vondre Sweat, was arrested. According to KKSAN, the 22-year-old defender is being held at the Travis County Jail in Austin, Texas, on a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. Texas law says a Class B misdemeanor like his is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both. The incident occurred when Sweat was involved in a crash on Interstate-35 while driving an SUV and the other driver left the scene on foot.
Svito’s arrest comes at a crucial time as he was expected to be the top pick in the upcoming draft, which is set to begin on April 25. A 2023 All-American and Outland Trophy winner as the nation’s top interior offensive or defensive tackle, he is currently ranked as the No. 82 overall prospect in the 2024 class by CBS Sports. Known for his rare size at 6-4 and 365 pounds, Sweatt also earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. Despite his arrest, Sweatt continued to meet with NFL teams, visiting the Tennessee Titans on Monday and planning to meet with Seattle to the Seahawks later in the week.
As the younger brother of Philadelphia Eagles pass rusher Josh Sweet, T’Vondre Sweat is not expected to face any potential NFL discipline for the arrest since he has yet to join the league. However, there is a possibility that the incident could affect his assets, raising concerns about his future in the league.
