As the nation continues to recover from a historic 100-year health pandemic, businesses across Michigan are feeling optimistic about their future. This was one of the key takeaways from a recent conversation with Quentin Messer, Jr., executive director of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Chris Holman, executive director of the Michigan Business Network, and Rochester Hills Mayor Brian Barnett on the Michigan issue for CBS Detroit.
During this conversation, Messer discussed the selection of 27 organizations to serve as entrepreneurial hubs under the $75 million Small Business Smart Zones and Business Accelerator initiative. These hubs support businesses in their growth and development by providing resources such as training, mentorship, and access to capital.
Holman shared the results of a statewide survey of hundreds of Michigan businesses, which revealed that talent acquisition was a top concern among business owners in the state. Despite these challenges, however, Holman noted that there was a sense of optimism among those surveyed about their ability to bounce back and thrive in the future.
Barnett highlighted Rochester Hills’ strength in robotics manufacturing and its continued growth, as well as the recent success of Oakland University’s men’s basketball team in the NCAA Tournament. He emphasized how these achievements showcase Michigan’s diverse economy and highlight its potential for continued growth in various industries.
