In honor of National Donate Life Month, Dignity Health recently announced that Mercy Medical Center in Redding will be illuminated with blue and green lights. This annual ceremony is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation while simultaneously recognizing those who have saved lives through their selfless act of donation.
As of now, there are more than 100,000 people on the national transplant waiting list, with over 20,000 living in California and nearly 300 in Nevada waiting for an organ transplant. Tragically, every day 17 people lose their lives while waiting for a transplant. In 2023 alone, Donor Network West facilitated donations for 473 organ donors, leading to 1,358 organ transplants and positively impacting the lives of 1,188 organ transplant recipients.
Each donor has the potential to save up to eight lives and improve the lives of over 75 people through tissue donation. By simply donating organs or tissues, individuals can significantly impact the lives of others and contribute to the crucial cause of saving lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation.
