OAKLAND — A moped rider died Tuesday morning after he was in a collision with a big rig truck east of the Bay Bridge, the California Highway Patrol said.
No information was immediately released about the rider, except that he was a male adult.
The fatal collision happened about 7:30 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 at the transition ramp to southbound Interstate 880, the California Highway Patrol said.
The moped rider, who was wearing a helmet, was involved in a collision with a big rig truck, causing him to be ejected onto the roadway, the CHP said.
He apparently was not struck by any other vehicles, the CHP said. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. No one else was injured.
All four traffic lanes were initially shut down while the CHP investigated. Two were reopened by 9:30 a.m. It was not known when the other two lanes would reopen.
Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call the CHP Oakland office at 510-457-2875.
