Pamela Anderson made her Met Gala debut a sparkling occasion to remember.
The actress arrived on the red carpet on Monday in New York wearing a look that was a full circle moment, which brought together hallmarks of her identity — glamour and sustainability.
The Pandora ambassador wore nearly 200 carats of the brand’s white and pink lab-grown diamonds, featuring a mix of diversified cuts and sizes. The necklace was wrapped around her collar and shoulder, serving as a statement piece that complemented her crinkle chiffon Oscar de la Renta dress by co-creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia. The look, done in a fawn color, incorporated a hand-pleated corseted bodice and reimagined Anderson as a “fairy in the forest,” Garcia said. Anderson had makeup by Pat McGrath and hair by Orlando Pita.
“I’m in a very freeing space right now where I have the opportunity to enjoy beauty and fashion on my own terms in pieces created with Pandora especially for me,” Anderson said in a statement. “There is always an allure in finding new ways to approach style while reducing harm to our environment — to be adorned in diamonds is opulent, and for these diamonds to be produced sustainably, it is innovative and exciting, so I get the best of both worlds.”
Pandora’s creative directors A. Filippo Ficarelli and Francesco Terzo, reflected on the brand’s innovation and a place for lab-grown diamonds on the red carpet, with the Met Gala serving as a key cultural moment.
“Capturing Pamela’s natural brilliance in bespoke pieces, comprised entirely of sustainable, lab grown diamonds is a dream creatively, we are so thrilled to be a part of her Met Gala debut appearance,” Ficarelli and Terzo said in a joint statement.
The Danish jeweler has introduced two limited-edition 1 carat pink diamond necklaces, available exclusively in select stores and online for $2,290.
Pandora’s lab-grown diamonds have a carbon footprint 95% smaller than mined diamonds and are created using only 100% renewable energy, according to the brand.
Last year in August, Anderson debuted as the face of Pandora’s “Diamonds for All” campaign as part of its expansion in the lab-grown diamonds category with new collections. She was joined by Justina Miles, Grace Coddington, Amita Suman, Sherry Shi and Vinson Fraley in the photo series.
The Met Gala raises funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and celebrates the Costume Institute’s annual exhibits. This year’s theme, “The Garden of Time,” nods to the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will open to the public on Friday. The 2024 event is notably co-chaired by Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
