Ole Miss defeated Southern Miss 7-3 in a softball game played at the Ole Miss Softball Complex in Oxford, Mississippi. Angelina DeLeon and Lexi Brady were instrumental in Ole Miss’s victory, with Brady hitting her team-leading 13th home run of the season, which was also the third most by a player in a single season in program history. Additionally, DeLeon hit her second home run of the season and had a two-hit night. Grace Sparks pitched well, striking out five batters over 3.2 innings to improve her record to 6-1. Briana Lopez finished off the game to secure Ole Miss’s win.
Southern Miss scored the first run of the game, but Ole Miss responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead. After Southern Miss tied things up in the second inning, Grace Sparks entered the game and threw effectively to keep things even. The Rebels finally broke their tie with two runs in the fourth inning thanks to hits from DeLeon and Ryan Starr. Lassiter delivered a two-run single to give Ole Miss a 5-3 lead going into the sixth inning.
DeLeon extended Ole Miss’s lead with another two runs in that final frame before Briana Lopez closed out the game with an impressive seventh-inning performance to ensure victory for Ole Miss. The Rebels are now set to play Auburn during Senior Weekend from April 26th through April 28th at their annual series against their rival school.
