Western Digital recently introduced the world’s first 4 terabyte SD card, with plans to ship this new capacity in 2025. The company unveiled the 4TB SanDisk Extreme PRO SDUC UHS-I memory card at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show, attracting broadcasters and creators content.

Western Digital has not disclosed pricing details for the new 4TB card. It uses a UHS-I Speed Class 10 bus and is rated Video Speed Class V30, providing a minimum sequential write speed of 30 MB/s, suitable for 8K video recording.

Despite the increasing capacity of SD cards, they may not be ideal for long-term storage due to factors such as memory type and environmental conditions. The lifespan of an SD card is usually around ten years, so it is advisable to opt for SSDs or external drives for storage purposes.

Western Digital is also introducing the 24TB G-Drive, an external desktop hard drive priced at $699. For those looking for more performance, a 24TB G-Drive project is available for $929, with a 40Gbps Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port. Additionally, there’s a 48TB version called the Mirror drive that includes an additional 24TB for RAID-1 mirrored backup, priced at $1,599.
