Shakira made her first appearance at Coachella in the Sahara Tent alongside Argentinian DJ and hitmaker Bizarrap. Introducing Wolf’s Howl, the Colombian pop legend performed two collaborations with Bizarrap: “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” from her new album, Las Mujeres Ia No Lloran, and club band “La Fuerte”. The fans went wild, waving Argentine and Mexican flags to welcome Shakira to the desert.
During the performance, Shakira announced that she will embark on a world tour to promote Las Mujeres Ia No Lloran, which begins in November. Although she mentioned starting in “this city,” it wasn’t clear if she was referring to the Coachella city of Indio.
Bizarap’s house-filled set had the crowd going wild as he performed songs from his viral Music Sessions series with talented Latin American MCs including Quevedo, Rauv Alejandro, Villano Antillano and Young Miko. He also played Mexican corridos from the Nathanael Cano session and “Entre Las 20,” along with an electric collaboration with Pes Plum, who was scheduled to perform later that night.
Shakira’s Coachella debut followed reports that she was being pushed to headline the festival, but Coachella ultimately passed on the opportunity. In March, she performed in front of more than 40,000 people in Times Square, performing songs from her album Las Mujeres No Lloran. A Rolling Stone review stated that the album marks a new chapter for Shakira, re-establishing her as an international pop icon with a refreshed image.
