Country Club Hills’ Bray heading to Hall of Fame
Asya Bray, a member of the Rhodes College Class of 2024, has been elected to the college’s Hall of Fame.
Selection to the Hall of Fame, which was established in 1931, is based on individual merit, leadership in student activities, service to others, and overall contributions to the campus community. Honorees are chosen by their peers.
A psychology major from Country Club Hills, Bray served as planning and design chair for Rhodes’ National Pan-Hellenic Council Plaza, a physical site on campus celebrating the impact and importance of historically Black sororities and fraternities. She is the vice president of Rhodes’ NPHC and the secretary of the Nu Phi chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Bray also is co-president of the Contents Under Pressure Improv Troupe and president of the Dungeons and Dragons Society. In addition, Bray has been a 2022 Summer Service Fellow, Rhodes College Diplomat and a Rhodes Student Associate in the Office of Career Services.
Beecher’s Boley is one of a kind at Monmouth College
Beecher’s Maddie Boley is the only Monmouth College track and field athlete that ranks in the top eight in the discus, hammer and shot put, who also is a recipient of an Order of Omega national scholarship.
Earlier this semester, Boley was awarded the $750 Parker F. Enright Scholarship.
In the discus, hammer and shot put, Boley currently ranks fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively, on the Scots’ honor roll.
Boley also has made an impact by getting involved in Greek life, something she never anticipated.
“Absolutely not,” she said, when asked if joining a sorority was part of her college plans. “But I had a friend who went to Valparaiso, and she told me to just give recruiting week a try. I was on campus early for SOFIA (a summer research program), and my mentor was in Greek life.”
Once recruitment began, Boley’s feelings started to change.
Today she’s Alpha Xi Delta’s vice president for membership and has been named, in order, president of Panhellenic Council, Order of Omega and Blue Key.
Lemont’s Kaminski cited as honorable mention IHSA All-State Academic
Lemont High School senior Martin Kaminski has been recognized as an honorable mention selection to the 2023-24 IHSA All-State Academic Team. Hundreds of student-athletes from across the state were nominated for consideration by their schools. Kaminski is just the sixth Lemont student-athlete to be named to either the all-state team or as an honorable mention selection.
Kaminski, who plans to attend Indiana University, has been active in athletics and extracurricular activities during his prep career, and has done so while excelling academically. A high honor roll student who has maintained a grade point average of better than 4.10, he earned AP Scholar accolades thanks to his performance on AP exams through his junior year. Kaminski was part of both the football and boys track and field programs for four seasons, and is a South Suburban Conference All-Academic honoree. He was a member of SSC Blue champion football teams as both a junior and senior. Kaminski contributed to Junior Achievement for two years and earned induction to both the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.
Frankfort’s Regan recognized at Millikin University Honors Convocation
Frankfort’s Madeline Regan received the Behavioral Science Award, Modern Languages Literary Criticism Award and the Major Thomas G. Storey Citizenship Award during the annual Honors Convocation and Distinguished Faculty Lecture on April 25.
