Despite Russian attempts to penetrate its defenses, the Ukrainian army commander Oleksandr Sersky confirmed that his forces are still in control of the strategic city of Chasiv Yar. According to Sersky, the enemy’s attempts to attack the city had failed, and maintaining control over Chasiv Yar was crucial for Kyiv.
Chasiv Yar is a strongly fortified city located west of the Russian-occupied city of Bakhmut. It has a pre-war population of 12,200 people. Meanwhile, in southern Ukraine, Russian forces fired five missiles at Zaporozhye, resulting in casualties, injuries and damage to buildings and industrial facilities. The impact of rocket attacks on Zaporozhye was devastating, with significant damage to residential buildings, private houses, shops and industrial facilities.
In response to the increasing use of hard-to-intercept ballistic missiles by Moscow, Ukraine’s air force has issued a ballistic missile warning in the Russian-controlled region. This comes as Russia continues to make slow advances in eastern Ukraine and Ukrainian forces face challenges due to a lack of artillery shells. The US aid is awaiting congressional approval to support Ukraine’s defense efforts against Russian aggression.
