Mr. Minh, a 75-year-old man, suffered from leg pain and difficulty walking due to blocked arteries in his lower limbs. The blockade posed a risk of severe anemia in both legs, with a lower extremity ischemia index indicating a risk of necrosis. Dr. Le Van Tuyen from Tam An General Hospital performed a “2 in 1” intervention to save the blood vessels in the legs.

Upon arrival at the hospital, Mr. Minh’s legs were severely blocked in the arteries of both lower extremities, including the iliac artery, the femoral artery, and the artery below the knee. Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) angiography was used to identify obstructions and calcifications in the arteries of both lower extremities. Dr. Nguyen An Dung, head of the department of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, was initially concerned about Mr. Minh’s ability to undergo major surgery due to his age and underlying medical conditions. However, instead of a two-armed vascular bypass, the medical team decided to combine surgery and endovascular intervention to completely resolve the condition.

During the two-hour procedure, doctors bypassed the blockage in the left leg artery and placed a stent in the left iliac artery. They successfully revascularized the right thigh, allowing Mr. Minh to regain feeling in his feet and walk again. After three days, he was discharged from
