This workshop will focus on a full-scale analysis of pre- and post-invasion environmental trends, as well as the current state of citizen science and citizen monitoring in Ukraine. The discussion will also cover environmental priorities during the country’s recovery. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to discussions on methodologies and project priorities related to the study of air, water, soil and natural resources.
The workshop is adapted to individuals from the academic and scientific environment, as well as policy makers and representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). It is an activity of the GROMADA project 2023-1-SE01-KA220-HED-000151848, which aims to improve cooperation between European universities in order to strengthen public and legal capacity for environmental recovery in Ukraine.
Given the significant impact of the war on Ukraine’s environment, the GROMADA project promotes civic engagement in citizen environmental science while considering the legal framework. Assessing the obstacles and opportunities for community involvement in environmental initiatives and peacebuilding efforts, GROMADA emphasizes the importance of monitoring environmental damage during conflict. This approach aims to empower conflict-affected communities and promote environmental action in a legal context.
