Exciting news is sweeping through the anime community on the Internet as it’s revealed that “Jujutsu Kaisen” has secured its place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the most in-demand animated TV show.

This achievement has sent shockwaves through the fandom, especially considering it has surpassed long-reigning favorites like “Attack on Titan” and “One Piece.”

In a remarkable turn of events, “Jujutsu Kaisen” has officially dethroned “Attack on Titan” as the world’s most in-demand animated TV show, according to data provided by the esteemed data science firm Parrot Analytics. This shift marks the end of “Attack on Titan’s” reign, which had held the title since 2020.

New King in The Anime Community

Parrot Analytics employs a sophisticated method to gauge the ‘demand’ for a particular show, considering various factors such as audience attention, engagement, desire, and viewership.

Their system aggregates an immense volume of data, including metrics like video consumption (streaming and downloads), social media interactions (hashtags, likes, shares), and research activities (such as reading about a show on IMDb).

“Jujutsu Kaisen,” based on Gege Akutami’s popular manga series, revolves around the journey of high school student Yuji Itadori, who embarks on a mission alongside a group of Jujutsu Sorcerers to vanquish a formidable Curse named Sukuna, who becomes hosted within Yuji.

Despite stiff competition from other heavyweights like “One Piece” and “Attack on Titan,” “Jujutsu Kaisen” emerged triumphant in 2023’s rankings. Notably, “One Piece” experienced a surge in interest attributed to the release of its live-action adaptation on Netflix, which attracted both new and returning fans to the series.

Meanwhile, “Attack on Titan,” having concluded its final season in November, retained a massive following but narrowly missed clinching the top spot this time around. However, it was a late-year surge that propelled “Jujutsu Kaisen” to the forefront.

How Jujutsu Kaisen Claimed to the Top

The release of new episodes for the second season starting in July and continuing until the year’s end coincided with a steady rise in demand for the show, reaching its zenith on December 29th, surpassing demand for the average TV show by a staggering 128 times.

Notably, “Jujutsu Kaisen” resonated particularly strongly with the younger demographic, with Gen Z (ages 13–22) constituting a significant 71.3% of its viewership.

This enthusiastic fan base played a pivotal role in propelling the anime to its newfound status as the most popular show of the year, eclipsing both “One Piece” (56.7% Gen Z viewership) and “Attack on Titan” (64.4% Gen Z viewership).

Things tend to switch up annually. Last year, Attack on Titan was ruling the roost as the most sought-after animated show, and before that, One Piece held the crown. So, who knows, maybe next year we’ll see Frieren stepping up as the new champion since it’s been doing pretty darn well this year.
