National soccer player Marina Hegering has extended her contract with VfL Wolfsburg by another year. The club announced this on Friday. It was actually planned that the 33-year-old would move to the Lower Saxony coaching staff after the current season. The central defender, who is currently out injured, will now remain active for another year. Hegering moved from FC Bayern Munich to Wolfsburg in the summer of 2022. In 2023, the 36-time national player won the DFB Cup with VfL and reached the final of the Champions League.
“I still really enjoy playing football and being on the training pitch. That’s why I wanted to play another season on the pitch,” said Hegering. This is good news for the Wolfsburg women after they recently had to announce the departure of defensive specialists Lena Oberdorf and Dominique Janssen. National player Oberdorf is moving to FC Bayern in the summer, the new club for the Dutch selection player Janssen has not yet been officially determined.
