Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić calls for the reintroduction of the death penalty in his country. He will propose this to the new government once it is formed after the parliamentary elections last December, the press agency quoted Beta Vučić am Samstagabend.
The specific reason for this statement by Vučić is the missing case of a two-year-old girl.
40-year-old died in custody
In this context, two men were initially arrested on Thursday after admitting the girl’s death in a traffic accident.
Two close relatives of one of the suspected perpetrators were also arrested on Saturday. One of them, a 40-year-old man, died in custody last night.
The doctor in charge determined that the cause of death was natural, and the public prosecutor’s office, according to media reports, ordered an autopsy of the body, as reported by the TV station N1 reported.
Like the newspaper Flash According to reports, the 40-year-old is the brother of one of the suspects and the other man is his father. They are said to have helped to remove the child’s body after the crime.
Death penalty abolished in 2002
Vučić had already campaigned for the reintroduction of the death penalty a year ago, when 19 people were killed in two massacres in Belgrade and Mladenovac. He said at the time that he had been informed by the government that reintroduction would not be possible.
The death penalty was abolished in Serbia in 2002. Serbia’s president is known for often exceeding his rather modest powers. The Prime Minister-designate Miloš Vucevic is considered one of his closest colleagues.
