LIVE OAK — Rescue workers recovered the body of a deceased man Wednesday afternoon who was discovered floating in the waters off Moran Lake Beach.
Emergency responders were called during high tide to the beach, shortly before 4:30 p.m. On a sunny afternoon resulting in packed beaches up and down the coast, a caller spotted someone out amidst the waves, about 30-40 yards out, who did not appear to be moving or struggling, according to dispatch recordings.
The Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office deputies responded along with the Santa Cruz Harbor Patrol, State Parks rangers and Central Fire Protection District fire personnel. A rescue swimmer ultimately helped load the body onto a Harbor Patrol boat before it was transported to the Santa Cruz Small Craft Harbor.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office coroners unit continued work to identify the man, in addition to investigating his cause and manner of death, on Wednesday, according to agency spokesperson Ashley Keehn.
