OAKLAND — A man who survived an East Oakland shootout last month that left him wounded and another man dead has been charged with murder, according to authorities and court records.

Marcus Maxie, 25, of Oakland, is accused of killing Aaron Hughes, 35, of Berkeley in a gunfire exchange that happened just after 7 p.m. May 28 in a parking lot in the 10500 block of Foothill Boulevard, authorities said.

Maxie was wounded in the leg during the exchange of gunfire but has since been released from a hospital. He is also charged with carrying a concealed firearm on one’s person.
