Dune movie series the third part is now officially in the works, news reports, among other things Entertainment Weekly and Screen Rant.
Production company Legendary Pictures confirmed on Thursday that the film is in development.
In principle, there is still no final confirmation that the film will be made.
That decision will ultimately be made by the film studio Warner Bros. However, it is very likely, because especially the one currently playing in cinemas Dune: Part 2 has been a success both at the box office and in critical reviews.
The third film is based on Dyyni author Frank Herbertin to the work Dyynin Messias (1969). As in the previous films, he is responsible for the direction and script Denis Villeneuve.
There have been no final confirmations about the actors yet, but it is expected that Paul Atreides will continue in the lead role Timothée Chalamet. Other key roles in previous films included, among others Zendayan played by Chani, Florence Pughin character Princess Irulan and Paul’s sister Alia (Anya Taylor-Joy)
The third the film is probably Villeneuve’s last in the Dune series. At least that’s what Villeneuve said Time magazine in an interview at the beginning of January.
After processing Dyyn’s Messiah, the film adaptation may become difficult in general, because the source material takes a turn in a strange direction after that.
Dyyni production as a whole is not stopping, however, because the TV series set in the same universe Dune: Prophecy is coming to the Max streaming service anyway. According to current information, the series will premiere at the end of 2024.
