Quick Share and AirDrop style: WhatsApp plans its own file transfer system

Meta is preparing a file transfer system for WhatsApp in the style of Google’s Quick Share and Apple’s AirDrop, which will allow you to send and receive photos and videos from people who are nearby.

‘People Nearby’ is a function that those responsible for WhatsApp are currently working on that in an upcoming update of this messaging service will allow you to locate people who are close to the user and share files.

This novelty has been seen in the Android beta version of WhatsApp (v2.24.9.22), as reported by the specialized portal WABetainfo, which has shared its main features.

Specifically, in addition to locating nearby people through your mobile device, it will also allow you to link them momentarily to send and receive files, such as photographs, videos or other types of documents.

This function, reminiscent of the operation of Google’s Quick Share (former Nearby Share) and Apple’s AirDrop, can be activated and deactivated from the WhatsApp settings, and as the company points out, the transfer will be carried out under end-to-end encryption and without revealing the phone number.
