The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz announced this Wednesday the birth of the Carlos Alcaraz Garfia Foundation, which he presides with the main “objective” of “improving the situation of children with the most difficulties.”
The Alcaraz Foundation’s mission is to improve the living conditions of children in situations of disability or difficulty, promoting the defense of their fundamental human rights, seeking to reduce risk factors in the environment of children in vulnerable families or in situations of exclusion.
“Today is a very special day for me. I believe that many athletes are in a privileged position and have the possibility of helping the most disadvantaged people, in this case improving their childhood. Our Foundation was born taking small and safe steps, and with the intention of gradually improving the quality of life of those who need it. I really want to be able to add my grain of sand,” says the tennis player himself in a statement.
The Foundation, promoted by the Alcaraz Garfia family, has its headquarters in El Palmar and has already launched its first activities since, according to the official note, the Region of Murcia has a “worrying diagnosis” in terms of children with deficiencies severe materials, educational abandonment and obesity.
With this situation very present, “the Foundation prepares this Strategic Planning that aims to guide the steps to be taken in the next two years. A short period but of vital importance for the consolidation of the entity and the definition of an exciting project.”
Specifically, social sports activities have been started that have reached more than 120 schoolchildren, and that promote the development of equal opportunities for the most disadvantaged children. “These are the first steps that mark the identity of a project with broader objectives,” the statement says.
“In this sense, the Foundation will promote new initiatives in three lines of work: social inclusion, using sport as a source of values for the little ones, but also as an instrument that allows them to improve their living conditions,” he adds.
On the other hand, physical activity will also be the axis on which they work to improve health, since it promotes the physical, psychological and emotional well-being of children. In addition, they will also work on raising social awareness about the problems faced by the most vulnerable children and their possible solutions.
