Drivers in Berlin have to be prepared for numerous restrictions this weekend: there are already restrictions for the half marathon on Sunday First closures in Tiergarten on Friday morning set up, said the traffic information center (VIZ).

Also on the Ebertstrasse, John-Foster-Dulles-Allee, Yitzhak-Rabin-Strasse, Scheidemannstrasse at the corner of Dorotheenstrasse, Heinrich-von-Gagern-Strasse, Annemarie-Renger-Strasse and Paul-Löbe-Allee Closures will then be set up for the half marathon.

From Sunday 7 a.m. to around 5:30 p.m. the street is open Unter den Linden then closed to car traffic between Brandenburg Gate and Friedrichstrasse.
The entire running route will then be closed from 8 a.m. The 21.0975 kilometer long lap leads about 36,000 runners past some of the most striking points in the city: Großer Stern, Ernst-Reuter-Platz, Charlottenburg Palace, Kurfürstendamm, Potsdamer Platz, Checkpoint Charlie and Berlin City Palace, Gendarmenmarkt and Brandenburg Gate.
“Motor vehicles cannot cross the route or can only cross it if cleared by traffic control,” said the traffic information center. During the race, crossing is only possible to a limited extent for pedestrians and cyclists.
The VIZ is counting on this “significant traffic disruptions” during the race and recommends using the subway and S-Bahn. Drivers should take the A100 city motorway and use the Tiergarten Tunnel (B96) and the tunnel at Adenauerplatz to cross the running route.
The closures on the route should be gradually reopened by around 3 p.m. – when all runners have finished and the streets have been cleaned. It’s expected to last until early Monday morning all blockages must be removed again.
Not only the half marathon is likely to lead to traffic jams in Berlin, but also the end of the holidays: “Due to the ones ending this weekend Easter holidays In Berlin and Brandenburg, increased traffic volumes on the city highways can be expected throughout the weekend,” said the VIZ.
