Nearly 5,000 visitors flocked to Cuc Phuong National Park last week to watch butterflies flying in the sky as butterfly season begins.
According to Mr. Do Hong Hai, Deputy Director of the Center for Environmental Education and Services, Cuc Phuong National Park, this year’s butterfly season has come early. Every year it is around the end of April, but this year the butterfly season in Cuc Phuong has started a week ago. The number of visitors is large both on weekdays and on weekends.
In addition to families bringing young children, the garden also attracts many international visitors to see butterflies. The number of visitors to Cuc Phuong in the past month (March 15 – April 15) reached nearly 12,000. In the first week of butterfly season (April 8 – April 15), the number of visitors reached nearly 5,000.
According to Mr. Hai, the Garden has more than 400 species of butterflies. This season, visitors will see millions of butterflies flying in space, filling the walkways. Right from the entrance to the national park, thousands of butterflies can be seen flying in the sky. “Butterflies appear a lot, up to tens of thousands of them due to the beautiful sunny weather. On rainy nights and sunny mornings, the most butterflies will appear,” Mr. Hai shared the most beautiful and numerous butterfly viewing times at the Garden.
Cuc Phuong is also famous for its butterfly season from late April to the end of May. Millions of white wings flying in flocks across the road leading into the national park are a typical image that attracts tourists to this place. Ticket price to visit the garden is 60,000 VND for adults and 10,000 VND for children (grades 1 to 11). Children under 6 years old are free.
Cuc Phuong is Vietnam’s first national park, established in 1962, located 120 km from Hanoi, in three provinces of Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa. The park covers an area of more than 22,000 hectares, characterized by tropical rainforest and is home to more than 2,200 higher plants and mosses, 122 species of reptiles, 66 species of fish, nearly 2,000 species of insects, and 135 species of mammals. There are many rare animals living here such as white-clad langurs, clouded leopards, and black bears. This place also has a beautiful cave system with great archaeological value such as Son Cung and Pho Ma Giang caves.
In addition to butterflies and fireflies, other favorite activities of tourists when coming to Cuc Phuong are walking through the forest, participating in tours to see wildlife at night, and camping. Each year, the garden welcomes about 120,000 visitors.
In August 2023, Cuc Phuong won Asia’s Leading National Park award by the World Travel Awards and held this championship position for the 5th consecutive year.
