Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude for the $60 billion aid package passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, emphasizing the urgency of turning the bill into law and swiftly transferring weapons.

Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Zelenskiy underscored the importance of long-range arms and air defense systems in bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Zelenskiy conveyed optimism about the bill’s passage, believing it would send a robust message of solidarity to Russia while preventing Ukraine from becoming “a second Afghanistan.”

He stressed the need for prompt action in the Senate, urging lawmakers to prioritize the delivery of important military equipment.

Among the top priorities cited by Zelenskiy were ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile Systems), which is essential for extending Ukraine’s defensive reach.

These long-range guided missiles have proven effective, with previous deliveries enabling strikes up to 165 km away.

Zelenskiy reiterated Ukraine’s commitment to using these weapons exclusively within its own borders, allaying concerns about cross-border escalation.

The aid package, part of a broader $95 billion legislative measure, garnered bipartisan support in the House.

Despite previous delays due to opposition from some Republican quarters, momentum has shifted toward passage, with Senate consideration imminent. Both President Joe Biden and key Republican figures have advocated for the bill’s swift approval.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Mark Warner anticipated rapid deployment of military equipment, including ATACMS, by the end of the week.

These weapons are significant for disrupting Russian supply lines and infrastructure in occupied territories, enhancing Ukraine’s ability to counter ongoing aggression.
