Illustrator and director Yoshitoshi Shinomiya is set to helm a new anime film titled “A New Dawn,” tentatively scheduled for a 2025 theatrical release in Japan. The project is a collaborative effort between ASMIK Ace and French studio Miyu Productions, known for their work on “Ghost Cat Anzu.”

This marks Shinomiya’s debut as a feature-length director, with the film centering on a 330-year-old fireworks factory facing imminent eviction. “A New Dawn” follows the narrative of three young individuals who have grown up in the vicinity of the factory, unfolding over the course of two days surrounding the mysterious fireworks establishment, Shuhari.

Character design for the film is by Utsushita (“Heavenly Delusion”), with Akiko Majima (“Suzume”) contributing as an artist. Shūta Hasunuma is tasked with composing the music score.

The film will be presented in an animation showcase, with Shinomiya providing insights into the project and a behind-the-scenes look, as part of the Annecy International Film Festival’s “Animation Day” on May 19.
